Dr. Etienne Potgieter

Dr Etienne Potgieter qualified as a dentist at University of Pretoria in 1984. After 2 years compulsory military training where he worked as a dental surgeon in various rural areas of South Africa and Namibia he joined a 3-man practice in Pretoria which specialized in fixed crown and bridge work and removable dentures. Various sedation techniques for nervous patients were performed and the clinic had a very practical approach with laboratory technicians on site. In 1990 Etienne started working as a dentist in Putney and later that year a practice in Hastings. Both surgeries performed all General Dental Services but specialized in Conscious Sedation for nervous patients and Cosmetic work doing teeth Whitening and Veneers, Crown and Bridge work.
During this time Etienne met his wife, Adre, in Putney married 1998 and they had two children, Jonty, born April 2000 and Patricia born July 2002. They moved to Strand, Cape Town in 2005 and had another boy, Etienne jnr born February 2007. During the stay in Cape Town, Etienne did a two year postgraduate course in Implantology at University of Stellenbosch. On their return to Putney they started Gentle Dental Putney in September 2009. The practice benefits from all the experience from Etienne and incorporate all the disciplines mentioned above. Gentle Dental also started a specialist division for Denture and Implants.
Dr. Johann Styger

Dr. Johann Styger is an implant dentist who has been practicing for several decades. He has been a part of implant dentistry to help others improve the health and beauty of their smiles. With a diploma from Lille University in Implantology, he has the experience to provide implants for the best aesthetic results. He continues to improve his education on implant dentistry by completing courses on aesthetic dentistry at the Rosenthal Institute of New York, having achieved master level there in 2005. He is also an instructor, and became a member of Gentle Dental Putney in 2013.

Dr. Van Der Merwe was born and raised in South Africa, where she completed her dentistry degree at the University of Stellenbosch. She brings a wealth of experience to Gentle Dental Putney. She has worked in several private practices and owned her own dental office in the UK.
Ilze has a special interest in giving patients the confidence they deserve by delivering optimum smiles, with care individualized to their specific needs. She accomplishes this with a range of services including simple gum treatments, whitening, straightening (she is a certified Invisalign provider), and complex smile makeover techniques.
Dentistry is a constantly evolving field. Ilze keeps her knowledge and skills up to date with an on-going focus on continuing education and training. She also works closely with specialists in other disciplines to develop the best possible treatment plan for each patient.
Ilze is fluent in English and Afrikaans, and has a solid understanding of French and Dutch languages. When she isn’t at the dental centre, she enjoys all the good things life has to offer – architecture and design, health and fitness, skiing, outdoor activities, reading, and good food and wine.
Dr. Peter Caspersonn

Dr Peter Caspersonn qualified at Sydney University in 1980. He worked in Australia for 3 years and then came to England in 1984 where he worked in Ealing as an associate for 12 years. In 1997 he became the owner of a practice in Fulham.
Peter joined Gentle Dental in 2012. He specialised in Sedation Dentistry, Adult orthodontics (Inman aligners) and Cosmetic work.
Outside of work Peter enjoys spending time with his family.
Dr. Shivani Kunasingam

Shivani qualified from Bart's and the Royal London Hospital in 2005. She has since completed a postgraduate qualification, the MFGDP RCS (UK). She has also completed postgraduate certificates in Cosmetic Dentistry, Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry and Advanced Occlusion. She has attended and completed the qualification for the Six Months Smiles from which she can offer an affordable, cosmetic brace system to straighten teeth. Within dentistry she enjoys all aspects, but in particular she has a special interest in oral surgery.
Her interests involve traveling and socializing. She has a keen interest in the arts and photography which she has developed along her travels.
Dr. Joanna Quintal

Dr. Joanna Quintal qualified at Oporto´s Dentistry University in Portugal in 2008. She worked as a general dentist for three years in Oporto while she completed her Master´s degree in Periodontology. She also completed a postgraduation certificate in implantology and, at the same time, she was invited by the University to help dentistry students in Restorative Dentistry which she took on for 2 years. After this, she decided to move to her home town, Funchal, in Madeira Island, where she now has her own successful practice.
Joanna´s roots are English, born and bought up in London until she was 10. She now has joined Gentle Dental completing her dream of working in London and offering our Gentle Dental patients a specialized treatment in gum disease/problems. She believes in a multi-disciplinary treatment and that the bases for everything in dentistry are healthy gums. She also gives emphasis to general health problems related to gum disease. She makes a great effort on keeping up to date on the latest techniques by completing different courses on Periodontology.
Joanna is fluent in English and Portuguese and has some understanding of Spanish. On her free time she loves to travel, getting to know new cultures and their gastronomy. She is very lucky to live on a island with nice weather during all year that gives her the opportunity to lay in the sun nearly all year round.
Loretta Nunn: Practice Manager/Receptionist.
Our Manageress and Receptionist is well known and loved in Putney for her caring efficiency. Being a holder of BDPMA foundation certificate in Dental Practice management, She brings her vast experience of 28 years + to our practice and continued a working relationship with Dr. Potgieter which started in 1996. She enjoys spending time with her two grown up children and travelling.
Laura Butler-Smith: Dental Hygienist/Therapist

Laura is a very experienced Dental care professional with over 10 years within the industry. Laura initially trained and worked as a Dental Nurse at king’s college Hospital gaining various qualifications along the way before furthering her studies.
Laura qualified from King’s College Dental Institute as a Dental Hygiene Therapist, where she was awarded a clinical excellence award. She joined our practice in 2011 where she has started to develop a tailor-made hygiene programme.
The treatment and maintenance care Laura provides is to the highest standard and all advice given is suited to individual client needs. Her training allows her to carry out preventative and conservative treatments for adults and children, including the placement of fillings and an extensive range of dental treatments on the deciduous dentition (milk teeth).
Laura has a gentle but thorough approach to her work, which means nervous, sensitive and first time patients are more than welcome.

Susana, our enthusiastic, happy dental nurse joined our team in 2013. She qualified as a dental nurse in June 2011 and received a National Diploma in Dental Nursing.
With a welcoming and professional attitude, Susana reassures patients, especially those who are more nervous, feeling more at ease and comfortable. So that their dental experience is more positive.
In her spare time, Susana enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Loves shopping, dancing and eating good food!

Muna very much enjoy the direct patient care approach by reassuring patients, especially nervous patients to make them feel comfortable and show care and understanding toward them, to help the patient overcome their fear of dentistry. She gets great pleasure from the appreciation she get from patients each time. Muna likes to spend her free time growing her own organic vegetables in her allotment or cooking and entertaining her family and friends.
