Dr. Etienne Potgieter

Dr Etienne Potgieter qualified as a dentist at University of Pretoria in 1984. After 2 years compulsory military training where he worked as a dental surgeon in various rural areas of South Africa and Namibia he joined a 3-man practice in Pretoria which specialized in fixed crown and bridge work and removable dentures. Various sedation techniques for nervous patients were performed and the clinic had a very practical approach with laboratory technicians on site. In 1990 Etienne started working as a dentist in Putney and later that year a practice in Hastings. Both surgeries performed all General Dental Services but specialized in Conscious Sedation for nervous patients and Cosmetic work doing teeth Whitening and Veneers, Crown and Bridge work.
During this time Etienne met his wife, Adre, in Putney married 1998 and they had two children, Jonty, born April 2000 and Patricia born July 2002. They moved to Strand, Cape Town in 2005 and had another boy, Etienne jnr born February 2007. During the stay in Cape Town, Etienne did a two year postgraduate course in Implantology at University of Stellenbosch. On their return to Putney they started Gentle Dental Putney in September 2009. The practice benefits from all the experience from Etienne and incorporate all the disciplines mentioned above. Gentle Dental also started a specialist division for Denture and Implants.
Dr. Ilze Van Der Merwe.

Dr. Van Der Merwe was born and raised in South Africa, where she completed her dentistry degree at the University of Stellenbosch. She brings a wealth of experience to Gentle Dental Putney. She has worked in several private practices and owned her own dental office in the UK.
Ilze has a special interest in giving patients the confidence they deserve by delivering optimum smiles, with care individualized to their specific needs. She accomplishes this with a range of services including simple gum treatments, whitening, straightening (she is a certified Invisalign provider), and complex smile makeover techniques.
Dentistry is a constantly evolving field. Ilze keeps her knowledge and skills up to date with an on-going focus on continuing education and training. She also works closely with specialists in other disciplines to develop the best possible treatment plan for each patient.
Ilze is fluent in English and Afrikaans, and has a solid understanding of French and Dutch languages. When she isn’t at the dental centre, she enjoys all the good things life has to offer – architecture and design, health and fitness, skiing, outdoor activities, reading, and good food and wine.
Dr. Peter Caspersonn

Dr Peter Caspersonn qualified at Sydney University in 1980. He worked in Australia for 3 years and then came to England in 1984 where he worked in Ealing as an associate for 12 years. In 1997 he became the owner of a practice in Fulham.
Peter joined Gentle Dental in 2012. He specialised in Sedation Dentistry, Adult orthodontics (Inman aligners) and Cosmetic work.
Outside of work Peter enjoys spending time with his family.
Dr. Vanesca Costa

Dr. Vanesca Costa is trained in all areas of dentistry, with a particular focus on cosmetic dentistry, full mouth rehabilitation, and treatment of dental trauma. She earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Brazil in 2001. She operated her own private dental practice in Brazil for five years before relocating to the UK. Dr. Costa completed additional dental training in the EU, as well as earning a LMD (License Master Doctorate) degree in dentistry from Fernando Pessoa University at Porto, Portugal in 2015.
Dr. Costa has a deep appreciation for the arts, which is evident in her cosmetic dental work. She also enjoys music, dance, poetry, theatre, and science fiction films. Her hobbies include hand painting decoupage boxes and photographing the beauty of flowers, nature, and urban life.
Dr. Joanna Quintal

Dr. Joanna Quintal qualified at Oporto´s Dentistry University in Portugal in 2008. She worked as a general dentist for three years in Oporto while she completed her Master´s degree in Periodontology. She also completed a postgraduation certificate in implantology and, at the same time, she was invited by the University to help dentistry students in Restorative Dentistry which she took on for 2 years. After this, she decided to move to her home town, Funchal, in Madeira Island, where she now has her own successful practice.
Joanna´s roots are English, born and bought up in London until she was 10. She now has joined Gentle Dental completing her dream of working in London and offering our Gentle Dental patients a specialized treatment in gum disease/problems. She believes in a multi-disciplinary treatment and that the bases for everything in dentistry are healthy gums. She also gives emphasis to general health problems related to gum disease. She makes a great effort on keeping up to date on the latest techniques by completing different courses on Periodontology.
Joanna is fluent in English and Portuguese and has some understanding of Spanish. On her free time she loves to travel, getting to know new cultures and their gastronomy. She is very lucky to live on a island with nice weather during all year that gives her the opportunity to lay in the sun nearly all year round.
Laura Butler-Smith: Dental Hygienist/Therapist

Laura is a very experienced Dental care professional with over 10 years within the industry. Laura initially trained and worked as a Dental Nurse at king’s college Hospital gaining various qualifications along the way before furthering her studies.
Laura qualified from King’s College Dental Institute as a Dental Hygiene Therapist, where she was awarded a clinical excellence award. She joined our practice in 2011 where she has started to develop a tailor-made hygiene programme.
The treatment and maintenance care Laura provides is to the highest standard and all advice given is suited to individual client needs. Her training allows her to carry out preventative and conservative treatments for adults and children, including the placement of fillings and an extensive range of dental treatments on the deciduous dentition (milk teeth).
Laura has a gentle but thorough approach to her work, which means nervous, sensitive and first time patients are more than welcome.
Dr Shweta Uprety

Dr Shweta Uprety was born in Kathmandu Nepal. She got her BDS degree from University of Dhaka Bangladesh in 2011. After moving to the UK with her husband , she also cleared the GDC registration examination (ORE) held for overseas qualified dentists in 2015.Being recent dental graduate she spent her first few years before registration accumulating an initial set of experiences as Dental nurse covering General dentistry, Orthodontics, Implantology and Conservative dentistry.
Shweta is currently working as a Dental hygienist/therapist at Gental dental Putney since February 2016.
Shweta’s aim is to provide a reliable patient care and make her patients as comfortable as possible. It is particularly important to her to look after the patients with kindness and assess them individually to provide a personalised service where they feel looked after and cares for. Although she is more focused on providing preventive dental therapy to the patients for the time being, she will be starting full general dental treatment from 2017. She will also be sitting for the MJDF examination held by Royal College of Surgeons in October 2016 to further develop her skills.
